Inspiration is all around us
What “Finding nuggets of wisdom” is all about (chapter intro):
What has always sustained my motivation to achieve my dreams and life goals are the many nuggets of wisdom and inspiration that have popped up along my journey. Even through those long droughts, those periods of my life when society distracted me with its noise, little golden nuggets would appear that renewed my hope that a more meaningful life yet awaits.
I think for many of us these nuggets of wisdom are easy to miss in today’s world of ever-increasing distractions. With the growing presence of technology and media, with the growing pressure to chase the almighty dollar and keep up with the Joneses, I think we miss some of the subtlest yet greatest inspirations.
Mankind and nature together have gifted us an endless supply of wisdom and inspiration, but we have to be on the alert, looking and listening for it. Those little nuggets of wisdom can be found in songs, movies, art, books, even YouTube videos (yes, the internet CAN be used for good). We can find it in everyday events and anecdotes. But if we aren’t paying attention, we’ll miss it entirely.
It is out there—everything you need to provide the answers to your big questions and inspire you to even bigger dreams. But you’re not going to notice these nuggets when your brain is absorbing nothing but trashy and inane TV, video games, music, and social media. We have to turn off the noise and listen, turn off the screens and look around, and tune in to things more positive.
So look for the inspiration all around you. It’s there! Look in nature, in people, and in what otherwise appear to be innocent personal interactions. Listen to the people who have the wisdom to share: your elders, your bosses, your teachers, even the homeless and down and out. Listen to anyone who is out there fighting the good fight and struggling to make their dreams a reality. Look for the lesson or the wisdom in your own life stories, interactions, and everyday situations.
“The less you talk, the more you will hear.” – Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Man gets tired…Spirit don’t
Man surrenders…Spirit won’t
Man crawls…Spirit flies
Spirit lives when man dies
Man seems…Spirit is
Man dreams…The spirit lives
Man is tethered…Spirit is free
What spirit is man can be
